Description
Catherine II Of Russia Coffee Cup & Saucer
1778-1779, Original is housed in the St. Petersburg Hermitage Museum, Russia. A unique object: this cup is part of one of the most expensive and vast service ever produced by the Sèvres workshops in the XVIIIth century. Requisitioned by Catherine the Great, a passionate collector of cameos and intaglios, the production of this service necessitated the labor of 44 artists and craftsmen over a two-year period, or approximately the entire manpower and output of the factory. Its 744 pieces could set a dinner table for sixty guests.
The Bernardaud Historical Litron Cup & Saucer is crafted by Bernardaud, the storied Limoges porcelain house founded in 1863. From its workshops in Limoges, France, Bernardaud has supplied the world's finest tables for more than 160 years, pairing the region's famed kaolin porcelain with contemporary artistry.
